A Fremantle Sailing Club yacht, which was damaged in the Southern Ocean as it returned from Adelaide, was escorted safely into Albany early this morning. Finistere, which competed in last year’s Sydney-Hobart yacht race, hit a submerged object 74 nautical miles off the south coast of WA and its keel was badly damaged. Owner Rob Thomas and his two crewmates made a distress call at 7pm Saturday night and an Albany Sea Rescue vessel took fuel to the Finistere and escorted it back to port, arriving just after midnight.
